Submitting Digital Photos/Application:

The Lakeville Art Festival has decided to implement a digital application process for 2010. As slides and projectors are becoming obsolete, many shows have already moved to a digital submission and jury process. Please call the Lakeville Arts Center at 952-985-4640 if you have any questions regarding this process.

All digital images must be sent via email or CD. You must submit five images (four of your artwork and one of your booth display).

  • Images are requested to be 1920 x 1920 pixels at 72 PPI (pixels per inch) saved as high-resolution, baseline JPG format. The image file size must be less than 1.8 MBs.
  • Each image should be labeled with your name, medium and the image number (1-5). Example: lastFirstMedium1.jpg
  • Images should be RGB. (It is the default color space for most digital cameras, projection devices, and for viewing images on a monitor and in a browser.)
  • If your image is not square, please mask your image with black to bring your image to 1920x1920 pixels.
  • If you have questions regarding digital image preparation, the NAIA (The National Association of Independent Artists) offers Digital Resources on preparing your images and recommendations on professionals offering digital imaging services.

Emerging Artist Program Eligibility:

The Emerging Artist Program offers any Minnesota resident whose work has not previously been professionally exhibited, an opportunity to showcase their talent and sell their work at the Lakeville Art Festival. This program is intended to provide encouragement and exposure to the art show venue at no cost to the artist. We will select three emerging artists to exhibit at the Festival. Emerging artists are juried with other emerging artists. You are eligible for this program for a two-year period.  Applicants who are not accepted may reapply the following year.

Jury Details:

The three-paneled jury is composed of at least two artists and also a professional versed in a wide range of artistic media. A new jury is impaneled each year to ensure the show remains fresh and eliminate any favoritism or bias. These jurors will also be on-site at the event to select artist award winners.

This year the jury is in person and will be conducted on Friday, May 18. The identities of artists are not disclosed to the jurors. Jurors are in the same room, discussion is encouraged after the first of three reviews. The festival Director is present to eliminate any bias or influence juror to juror. Artists submit four digital images of art work for the jury process. Artists submit one digital image of their booth. The artwork images appear on the screen. Each medium is reviewed in three rounds. Jurors will first review images within one category and not score. Jurors will then review artists’ images within that category and score each artist when displayed. Finally, any score that needs further discussion will be reviewed a third time. Images can be enhanced if juror(s) requests a magnified view, and the process, materials, dimensions for each image, and price point will also be made available to the jury upon request.
